Inclusion, Diversity & Cultural Safety

There is as much diversity in the food we eat as there is diversity in the people we serve.

At Optimum Intake Dietitians, we believe every body is deserving of access to appropriate, respectful and culturally safe healthcare services. We are committed to providing inclusive dietitian services across the Central Coast and Newcastle regions, supporting individuals, families and communities with expert nutrition care.

We inspire health and wellbeing through the enjoyment, satisfaction and simplicity of food in the delivery of our nutrition services to our diverse community. We acknowledge that nutritional health is influenced not only by biological and medical factors, but also by social, environmental and economic determinants of health. These factors can reduce access to appropriate healthcare and have significant impacts on long-term wellbeing.

Our goal is to provide equitable healthcare that recognises these complexities and actively works to reduce barriers.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

We strive to create a nutrition service that reflects the diverse communities around us — where everyone feels seen, heard, valued and empowered to achieve their health goals.

We are committed to delivering expert nutritional care regardless of race, gender identity, age, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, medical or nutritional conditions, cultural background, or socioeconomic circumstance.

Through our actions, policies and team culture, we actively embrace diversity, equity and inclusion. Our dietitians are deliberate and thoughtful in creating environments that respond effectively to our clients’ needs — environments where people feel respected, safe and able to participate fully in optimising their nutritional care.

In our services, you belong. Together, we can strengthen the foundations for greater health equity, reduce healthcare gaps, and empower individuals and communities to thrive.

Our Commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples

Optimum Intake Dietitians respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work and provide care.

Our Central Coast services are delivered on the lands of the Darkinjung people, and our Newcastle services are delivered on the lands of the Awabakal people.

We recognise and honour their continuing connection to land, waters, food systems, culture and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples we support through our services.

We acknowledge that health and wellbeing are deeply connected to culture, Country and community. As dietitians, we recognise the importance of food as cultural identity, connection and tradition.

We are committed to listening, learning and working in culturally safe and respectful ways. This includes striving to improve our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, supporting equitable access to nutrition services, and contributing to improved health outcomes for First Nations peoples within our Central Coast and Newcastle communities.
