Making Mealtimes Easier and Healthier

Cooking every day isn’t always easy. You or your loved one may feel worn out by the shopping, preparing, and cleaning up, or you may simply not have the time, energy, or ability to prepare each and every meal. That’s where meal delivery services can make life simpler.

Meal delivery services provide ready-made meals delivered to your door some are fresh, others are frozen, giving you the convenience of nutritious food without the daily effort.

But with so many providers and funding options, it can feel confusing and overwhelming to choose. Which one is right for your health needs? How do you make sure the meals support your goals?

You don’t have to figure this out alone. Optimum Intake Dietitians are here to guide you.

Why Add a Dietitian to the Mix?

Meal delivery is convenient, but convenience does not always equal good nutrition. That’s where we come in.

Did you know?

Research shows that to better support the nutritional needs of older Australians it is suggested that receiving dietetic intervention in addition to meal delivery services, will deliver better improvements in energy intake, protein intake and overall health status. Not everyone will need a dietitian service, however those individuals who are “At Risk of Malnutrition” or “Malnourished” will require further nutrition that what is currently offered through the meal delivery services or similar service programs.

Explore your options

Together, we look at different meal delivery services and how they align with your health needs, taste preferences, and funding.

Create your plan

We map out a plan that balances convenience with nutrition — covering meals, snacks, and drinks.

Set up delivery

We support NDIS, aged care packages, and private clients. Depending on your funding type, we tailor the setup to ensure smooth ordering, delivery, and access to dietitian support.

Review and adjust

We review your meal plan to ensure the meals provided are meeting your needs well, updating your plan as your needs, budget, goals or tastes change.

And remember: meal delivery doesn’t have to be forever. If you enjoy cooking, we can help you combine delivered meals with home-cooked ones. If your long-term goal is to get back into the kitchen, our dietitians can support you in rebuilding the skills, confidence and enjoyment to cook independently again.

New In Home Meal Obligations for Aged Care Meal Providers:

Optimum Intake Dietitians are also working with meal providers under the new In-Home Meal Obligations to improve the quality and nutrition of meals available across the community. Learn more here.

With the introduction of the Aged Care Act 2024, there are new requirements that apply to any Commonwealth- funded provider delivering meals to older adults in the community. Meal providers are now expected to demonstrate that their menus are nutritious, appetising, and appropriate for older adults. Meals now must be assessed by an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) at least annually to ensure they meet the nutritional needs of people aged >65 years.

Optimum Intake Dietitians are here to help you meet these obligations with confidence.

What Is the Role of the Dietitian?

Our Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) work with you and your team to ensure that meals are not only nutritious and appetising, but also tailored to the unique needs of older adults. Our process involves:

  • Assess and analyse menus for nutritional adequacy (protein, calcium, fibre, energy, etc.)
  • Review recipes and meal components
  • Evaluate variety, frequency, and quality of meals, including texture-modified diets (TMD)
  • Ensure cultural and therapeutic diet considerations
  • Conduct onsite visits
  • Provide a comprehensive report and certificate of compliance
