Gabrielle Douglass BN&D (Hons) APD
Dietitian
Gabbie is a passionate and personable Dietitian within the Optimum Intake Community Aged Care and Adult Disability Teams. She is dedicated to supporting adults and older adults to improve their health, wellbeing, and quality of life through personalised, evidence-based nutrition care.
Gabbie supports clients across a range of nutrition areas, including malnutrition, chronic disease management, navigating mealtime challenges, maintaining independence, and general healthy living. She is passionate about empowering clients to build the knowledge and skills needed to make confident, informed food choices. Gabbie is particularly committed to making nutrition care accessible for everyone, whether that means providing practical, budget-friendly meal ideas tailored to individual preferences, or supporting clients with grocery planning strategies to help get the most value from their food budget.
Gabbie provides a non-judgmental and supportive environment, both in clinic and out in the community, and is committed to meeting each client where they are at on their health journey. She takes a collaborative and realistic approach, focusing on sustainable changes that fit naturally into her clients’ lifestyles and ensuring clients are actively involved in their own care. Practising from a Non-Diet and Health at Every Size perspective, Gabbie prioritises self-acceptance and respect for body diversity, supporting clients to nourish and care for their bodies based on health, function, and wellbeing rather than pursuing an idealised weight.
Gabbie is a full member of Dietitians Australia and graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Class I Honours). In recognition of her academic achievements, she was awarded the Dietitians Australia “Most Outstanding Dietetic Student” Award and the University Medal.
Outside of work, Gabbie loves eating her way around Newcastle, spending time with her dogs, lifting heavy at the gym, and creating simple, affordable recipes to share online. When the weather is warm, you’ll likely find her in a body of water; when it’s cold, she’s usually curled up with a book or immersed in a new video game.
Gabbie looks forward to building strong, collaborative relationships within the local community and supporting you on your journey with Optimum Intake.
